Finally Hits Home
My daughter, grandson, and I have been staying at my parents home till we sell it, so it won’t sit vacant. My son and husband are still at our apartment.
My son called several days ago that he was sick, so sick he could not only not go to work but could barely get out of bed. I knew he must have a fever from him describing how he got dizzy and could barely stand up.
Luckily I have a couple caring neighbors in the building, and when one of them called him and heard how sick he was he immediately brought my son some flu supplies, for which I’m very thankful.
He’s better today and my husband said he had it too and he felt worse than he’s ever felt with the flu. Everything on his body hurt and although he still went to work, he is sure they had H1N1.
He says he’s better now too, but still feels a little sick. Thank God!
The Cold That Just Won’t Leave
Did you ever have a party and have at least one guest that you just can’t get rid of?
I’ve got a cold like that, although it could be allergies too I suppose. Sometimes I feel OK and other times I get that stuffy feeling and stuffy nose with a long string of sneezes that just won’t quit. Like a huge histamine attack. Your eyes tear to the point of blindness and you can’t breath out of your nose.
Other times you feel perfectly fine maybe just a little run down.
OK, I’m just going to a little pity party for myself and hoping someone will join me. You can’t blame a girl for trying!
H1N1 Becomes Common Flu
When the first news of the Swine flu hit we were all told to be alarmed and ready for millions to die from it. We were given the impression of this great pandemic which most of us took to mean that we were all in deep danger from it. There was talk about quarantine and the government sending soldiers in to enforce it. We were given the impression if we caught it we’d probably die from it. So what happened?
As far as the experts can tell, H1N1 surprised us by replacing the regular seasonal flu. That doesn’t mean it’s not dangerous for some people, it just means that it hasn’t been as prevalent or deadly any more than the regular flu has been. To add to that the regular flu seems to be down some so that we aren’t noticing any more illness any worse than a regular flu season.
Doctors are still telling us to get the vaccination and it’s probably still a good idea to do so, however you can relax a little and continue on as you usually do during flu season.
Remember the Swine Flu Outbreak in 1976?
In 1976 the swine flu made an appearance and we all got ready for a deadly pandemic, which never happened.
A swine flu shot was available and either the drug company or the goverment scared everyone into getting this shot to prevent the flu. The problem was, that this shot had very serious side effects for certain members of our population.
My mother always had health issues, so she did not get the shot as it would have been dangerous for her to do so. My father and I were healthy so we did get the shot and fortunately we did not suffer any side effects.
If a shot now becomes available weight all your options before getting it, so you can make the best health decision for yourself.
As for me I can only tell you what happened to me personally. Every year it seemed till I was 18 I caught the flu. What strain? Who knows, since the flu virus is ever changing I expect it was different every year. After I got the flu shot for swine flu in 1976, I’ve only had the flu once since then. I’m sure there were many other factors to explain this, I’m only telling you my personal experience.
Other Ways to be a Victim During Outbreak
Unethical people are always looking for a new scam and with the outbreak of this Swine Flu they have found it.
Many people are getting spam e-mails and running across spammers trying to cause panic over the swine flu and offering useless or counterfeit medications to “protect you, cure you, and save you” from this recent outbreak of swine flu.
I can practically guarantee you that whatever you buy from them with be useless against this virus. These people and companies are taking advantage over the situation.
Washing your hands is still the first and best defense. So don’t let yourself fall victim to these spammers and scammers too.
State of Emergency
Just a short post to remind you that having an area declared state of emergency does not have to mean that you should panic. Most often it is used because by having it declared a state of emergency it is able to free up funds that normally would not be available. It also enables parts of local and federal government to more quickly obtain needed materials.
Although the swine flu is spreading, I believe our world governments so far are operating on a precautionary level. Better to be ready to handle the worst before it comes close to being at the worst.
I hate government interferance but when we are talking about a dangerous pandemic, I do think that they need to step in when the moment comes.
Many countries are quarintining people coming home from Mexico, or are considering it. I believe that’s an understandable step, however I don’t see how that will help the US or Canada, seeing as how we have so many illegals coming in over the border. We haven’t been able to stop that so far and I don’t think there’s any was to stop it now.
All I can tell you to do for now is WASH YOUR HANDS, COVER YOUR NOSE AND MOUTH, AND AVOID CROWDS.
Tamiflu Almost Useless
The Center for Disease Control has said that they recieved reports that eight more children have died of the flu, making the total now seventeen across the country. Some of the children, most over the age of twelve also had secondary infections which could have contributed to their deaths.
A surprise to me is that the CDC says, 98% of these flu strains that are killing children are resistant to Tamiflu, making it almost useless. These strains are not all from the same bacteria, as they come from different strains themselves. Get your flu shots today for your kids at least.
