About a month ago I heard on the news that Obamas new health care reform has passed Congress. Yeah?

I got a couple of facts out of what I heard but not much, so I decided to look around the net and find the plan itself. I was going to read it line by line and then translate it to English.

I thought I did find it, but most of it was lawyer speak. You know, blah, blah, blah, and a little bit of truth or fact. OK I thought, maybe that’s all there is to it. Yet now I’m still reading articles in the news about it and or parts of it are still being debated.

So did anything get passed? If so what and where can we read about it?

I’m not a doctor but if you were to ask me my advice would be to talk it over with your doctor and put yourself first. If you are in a high risk group get tested. I still think, no I know it would end up being less expensive to catch cancer and treat it early rather than to let it get to the advanced stage and try to treat it.

Two Medical Marijuana groups may sue Los Angeles if the city council bans them from selling the pot. The problem is that the law states it’s illegal to sell marijuana and make profit and the only people who are protected are those who grow the plants.

The groups are saying that they are taking money to recoup their expenses. Does the city council of Los Angeles not understand this concept?

I’m sure the groups put out money for rent or mortgage on their locations not to mention utilities like water, heat, and light. Maybe they would also like to be paid for their time. I’m sure they in turn need money for their own bills and rent.

Those who are for it will make it work somehow, and those who are against it will always find stupid reasons why it should remain illegal.

A judge in California is being asked to consider leniency in the case of a man who was selling medical marijuana. It is said that he is considering it but the law is forcing him to impose a mandatory one year sentence no matter what he decides.

People in California and indeed all over the country are watching this case closely.

It’s too bad that the folks who are so against this don’t have to watch a loved one suffer as bad as my father did when he died of cancer last December. If they went through what I did, they would certainly ask for any mercy drug that would make the dying process easier.

My dad had cancer, but what did he really die from? He could not eat nor drink the last week or two of his life. I think some medical marijuana would have made it better.

It’s as stupid as when the lethal injection is given and they wipe down the area where the shots are to be given with alchohol to prevent infection. What does it matter? The convict will be dead long before the infection would show itself.

People should just really mind their own and their families business, instead of playing God with everyone else’s lives.

There is a clinic in San Francisco that gave out free medical marijuana out to poor people. They were operating legally with a temporary permit given to them by the Department of Public Health.

The DEA couldn’t even give the reason for the raid and the removal of virtually all plants, grow lights, and marijuana, just saying that the reason is under “the courts seat”, and that it’s suspected of violating state or federal law.

Maybe the DEA should busy itself trying to stop the crack and coke that flood our neighborhoods and destroy peoples lives. People, get your priorities in order!

More people now than ever are skipping or finding ways to stretch their medications because they simply can’t afford them anymore. This includes the elderly which have hit the “donut hole” in their medicare coverage. The so-called “donut hole” remember is the point at which they have reached the payout limit and must pay the next few thousand out of their pockets. Add in the 47 million who are uninsured and you’ve got people, myself included, that are stretching their meds by cutting pills or skipping days. One woman is even considering taking her elderly mother off of her Alzheimers medicine because it totals one fifth of her income and she simply cannot afford it without cutting back on other essentials like groceries, and gas.

The drug companies are starting to feel it now too by losing profits. So sorry for them, but the main concern is the person who needs a medication to live and has to risk their lives by having to choose between food and meds. I don’t have the answer but someone needs to come up with something. I think everyone has a responsibility to take care of their own health matters, however there are so many who have done everything right and the way they were supposed to but have now fallen through the cracks, unable to help themselves any longer.

There is a lot of talk lately about whether medical care and medications are a right or a responsibility. I believe that a person who fufilled their responsibilities throughout life, now has a right to at least the minimum of care.

The Bush Administration is proposing to pass legislation that would protect all health care workers from punishment by their employers, because they refused to participate in any procedure they find objectionable personally, morally, or religiously.

This legislation is mainly aimed at abortion, however it may have far reaching arms into areas like stem cell research, sterilization, and other care.

There have been legislation’s on this matter since the 1970’s, however it has not been enforced. The enforcement will consist of withholding funding to hospitals and clinics that employ workers who refuse to do their jobs and face consequences for it.

This would even include workers who sterilize operating instruments for a procedure they find objectionable.

With the last legislation leaving little doubt that they believe anything that interferes with a fertilized egg is abortion, they have pretty much set back woman’s health care to the back alley ages. Congratulations.

I have just read an article from England, which says that if you are elderly, medical treatment should not be given.
For instance, the highest group at risk for breast cancer is 70 and over. They have a 350 in 100,000 risk of the disease. However, advisors in England are saying it’s not worth it to test or screen woman over 70. It’s not worth it? I guess that means if you are over 70, and you’re health is failing, you deserve it. Go ahead, get sick, suffer and die. So what if you are the same people that bore and raised ungrateful brats that grew up to be these advisors. Who cares. You did your job, now get out of the way, we don’t need you anymore. You best bet, none of these advisors, are elderly, or have loved ones who are. You may think you’re safe because you may not live in England. Maybe you live in America, for instance. Well don’t fool yourself, the same thing occurs here, only we don’t usually find it in the newspapers. The truth is that sometimes the elderly are treated like animals. The doctor will say this or that is wrong, but at this age …is it really worth it to treat them? The question should be, are THEY really worth it.? I’m sure it all boils down to the question of money. In my book a good human being is worth more than money. You can always find a way to make more money, but let’s see you reanimate Grandma!
