Sick Sarah

Sarah is my cat. I’m not sure what exact breed she is but she’s mostly grey with an orange spot on the top of her head. We have her mom too, but Sarah is much smaller and very delicate looking even though she is about three years old. Anyway we sometimes let the cats out and they always return within a couple hours. They stay close to the house and lay in the sun.

A few days ago we let Sarah and her mom out and as usual they returned a short time later. Sarah seemed fine at first but then I heard her cough a couple times. Cats do sometimes cough up hairballs or cat food if they eat too much so I didn’t think anything about it. A couple hours later though, I saw her try to walk and she was tripping over her four legs. I knew something was very wrong. over the next day or two she got progressively worse and at one point couldn’t even lift up her head. We thought she was near death. We fed her drops of water and watched over her and somehow she started to get better. It’s been four days since then and she’s getting better each day.

We think she consumed something outside that may have poisoned her, but didn’t eat enough to kill her. We are relieved and grateful that she’s getting stronger every day and we won’t be letting her out anytime soon.
