How To Enjoy Food Without Salt

In my efforts to avoid sodium and salt I tried buying food items that had no sodium in them. Most items like catsup and certain lunch meats have been pretty good, however I was shocked by the lack of any taste from canned salt less soups. I couldn’t even eat them after tasting them.

First what I had to do was grow up and be an adult about the situation. Salt is very bad for me, so either I let it slowly kill me, or live with a few tasteless meals. Everything we eat doesn’t have to be the be all end all of meals.

The second thing I had to do was look for alternatives to the sodium and table salt. I did find some but not in salt substitutes. Those to me are terrible. Salt is salt and no imitation comes close. What did add a lot of flavor was lime juice which really brought out food flavors. Also a low or no salt hot sauce or hot peppers minced or chopped added a great deal of flavor. I also make my own salsa which also adds flavor.

Watch your blood pressure and weight, get a checkup and decide for yourself how much sodium and salt you can have, then be an adult and eat for health and not pleasure.
