A new FDA panel will be meeting for the first time to talk about the menthol flavoring in cigarettes. No one seems to think that menthol flavoring will be banned, however it will be discussed. Some people believe that menthol entices young people to take up smoking and that it’s also racially motivated. They claim that black people smoke more menthol cigarettes and have the highest percentage of all groups for smoking related diseases even though they smoke less than other racial groups.
What I found interesting about this article was that congress was going to take on this issue but they backed off due to a conflict between them and Phillip Morris Company. Make up your minds you can’t have it both ways.
