The American Heart Association has set out some new guidelines on sugar as a way to curb obesity and the resulting heart disease that could come from such a diet.
From a study done in 2004 by the government, people were consuming about 22 added teaspoons of sugar a day for most adults. The new recommendation per day for women is about six teaspoons and for men, about nine teaspoons of sugar.
About 70% of the soft drinks sold by the two big soft drink makers are regular with only the remaining 30% being a lower or non sugar type. However now with this new set of guidelines you can bet that both big cola companies are already working on a stevia plant based sweetened product.
