Sad State of Health
We all know healthcare in the US is in a sorry state but it’s even harder when you see someone close to you suffering in silence. Two days ago I look out the window and I see a neighbor, a grown woman crawling on all fours and I could see intense pain on her face. It turns out she sprained her ankle badly. At least we assume it’s a sprain because she refuses to go to the ER.
Not because she’s afraid of hospitals but because she’s terrified of the bill. Cindy sat there in pain and told me she had to choose between going to the ER and putting her family out on the street because she couldn’t pay the medical bills that would build up if she went and her rent and utilities. She has not been to get a checkup since she was a teenager almost 20 years ago and could be dying for all she knows.
The sad truth is that there are millions of people in this situation and no one seems to know how to deal with getting them help.
Medicare Is Like the Titanic
Here in an interesting article, one blogger likened the way that Medicare is being handled to the doomed ship the Titanic. Does he think that it is going down like a sinking ship? Great analogy and he’s not far off.
Panama Poison
After 22 people have died in Panama, someone noticed that many of these people had the same cough syrup in their possession and had the CDC test it. The CDC found diethylene glycol, used in antifreeze and paint products.
There are still people in the hospital suffering with the symptoms of this poisoning mainly kidney problems. Thank God the contamination has been found or many others could be the victims of the mysterious killer.
Warning For Diabetics
All diabetics should be aware that it’s been found that fake diabetic testing strips have been circulating in this country.
The boxes are strips sold for the One Touch Tester and the numbers are 272894A, 2619932 or 2606340. English, Greek and Portuguese writing was on the carton.
Another was sold under the One Touch Ultra name with the number 2691191. English and French appeared on the carton.
The fake strips were sold in 50-count packages.
If you have one of these, please return these to the store where you purchased them and have them replaced.
In China
Prostitutes in China recently angered Police there, when they were found attending a lecture on aids/HIV and avoiding disease. Police there say that prostitution is on the rise, and that by teaching the women safe sex they are legitimizing the profession.
While I completely understand why they feel that way, I’ve always thought that saving lives was much more important than the message being sent. In my view education of any kind can only help and be a good thing.
Buyer Beware!
These words Buyer Beware, take on a new meaning now-a-days. Doctors are starting to consider this a diagnosis for a disorder. People who are compulsive buyers, say they can’t seem to stop themselves easily from impulse buying and end up, in some cases of putting themselves in serious debt. This then causes them shame and depression. Now they want to purchase more to get rid of those feelings, they are trapped in a terrible circle and need help to get them out.
I understand the explaination, however I wonder if we should be calling it a disorder. I wonder how many spouses are going to fall for this also?
A NEW FRENCH STUDY
The French have completed a new study that suggests to them, that there is a connection between being overweight and your intelligence. They claim that the heavier you are the less intelligent you are.
Even the medical profession is guessing that this study will not be taken too seriously. They tested people from 32 to 62 years old and gave them four IQ tests to reach their conclusion. I think they are missing a couple key factors in this study of theirs. Leave it to the French again!
Counterfeit Blood Test Strips
As if having diabetes isn’t bad enough, someone is circulating fake blood test strips that gives diabetic patients false information about their health. Officials are warning people to stay away from them.
