13 Year Old Dies, Shame On You

May 9, 2005 · Filed Under Health Care

A thirteen year old boy died at a state run camp for troubled teens, because they say he was acting out, and had asked for his inhaler for his asthma. They refused to give it to him because they said he had a habit of asking for it whenever they restrained him. DUH ! Has common sense been outlawed in this country? They claim he was looked at,and it was determined he did not show any signs of having an attack, such as wheezing etc..
Having been the mother of a troubled teen, trust me,I can understand wanting to restrain them. HOWEVER, I don’t know about you, but when I’m upset and someone would try to restrain me I would become more upset, not calmer. I imagine my breathing would be fast and eratic in my struggle. I’m not a doctor, but is this a good condition for an asthma patient? Who would know best if he needed his inhaler, him or someone else? Does it take a genius to figure this out? When he went limp in their arms, they claimed he was faking. Maybe they can dig him up after he’s buried and give him an oscar for his performance of a dead child.
