Deadly Flu Virus

April 22, 2005 · Filed Under Health Care, Health Care Insurance, Health Care Providers · Comment

The New York Times reports that the deadly flu virus that was accidently given to labs around the world in test kits, have almost all been destroyed. This is the strain of the Asian flu that killed millions of people in 1957. The experts say that 99.6 % of the samples have been destroyed, and it is estimated that only a couple dozen are still around…somewhere…well, come on now, if they knew where they were they’d have destroyed them too. I don’t know about you, but that sure makes me feel a whole lot safer. I mean how many people can become infected from just a couple dozen samples? MILLIONS. That’s how many. All it will take is one sample, in the wrong hands to infect one or two people. You do the math. More scary than that , is the fact that they really don’t know where these samples are. What does that mean? I guess we’ll find out in a few weeks, in the mean time…ACHOOO!!!!

Terri Schiavo

The fact that Terri Schiavo has died, and the media coverage, should not put what happened out of our minds.
The way in which it was done was cruel and inhumane.Think about this…
It was said that she didn’t suffer, didn’t feel any pain. I’ve heard the same thing about fish. They don’t feel pain when the hook goes through their mouths or when they are deprived of oxygen from being taken out of the water still alive. I’m not a fish, I don’t speak fish, and so I really don’t know if they can feel pain or not, and I would not have the gall to make that statement. They , and Terri, don’t express themselves in the same way we do , so I guess if I was a God, oh sorry I mean doctor, that would mean they must not be able to feel. Terri was given a couple doses of morphine for the pain she couldn’t feel. That was explained by saying it was really for the family. To make them feel better. I know that when I have a horrible headache, I give my husband two aspirin and I feel better right away. If they wanted to make it eaier on the family, why did they not allow them to even moisten her lips and mouth with a cloth soaked in water, or place an ice chip in her mouth? Oh, I forgot , that might have lenghtened her life about what, a micro second? They could have easily taken out her feeding tube, and hooked her up with an IV, just to give her body water. They would have had to wait a week or two longer for her to die but it would not have been so cruel. Was her husband in that much of a hurry to get rid of her? If he was so devoted to her wish to die, he would have found a faster way legal or not, people do it all the time. I have been on medication in the past that one of the side effects was dry mouth. I would wake up in the morning, after just a few hours sleep, with my tongue stuck to the roof of my mouth, where I would have to take my fingers and peel it off. It was not pleasant. It’s been said that we only use ten percent of our brain and no one knows what the other ninety percent is for, but the doctors were very sure she was brain dead. I guess that means those same doctors now know what the whole brain is for. I must have missed that major medical breakthough somehow.
People were also saying that if they were in the same situation that they would not have wanted to live either. Did no one else catch that? Hello? Fine, I’ll spell it out for you. You as you are now have a functioning brain, if you were trapped in a unresponsive body, of course you wouldn”t want to live like that, but if your brain is no longer functioning, then you are not you any longer, and you wouldn’t even know that you were in a prison of a body. You see by her husband saying that she wouldn’t want to live like that, he was really saying that he believed her mind was in there, alive and working. Not to even mention that our dear departed Pope John Paul said that he believed it was wrong to remove the feeding tube, and yet scores of catholics still thought the tube should be removed. I guess it’s a religon of conveniece. Which reminds me, my husband said to me yesterday, if Jesus and his apostles were from the middle east , where did there names come from, I mean, how many middle easterners have you heard of named, John, Matthew, Luke , or Paul? Oh well, I guess that’s another blog.
